Types of Fonts and Typefaces supported by HP PCL:

Resident (internal):  Internal fonts or typefaces can be either bitmap or scalable.

            ROM                                     Read Only Memory resident (comes with the printer)

            SIMM                                    SIMM memory resident (can be added to the printer)

            Cartridge                                Cartridge resident (can be added to the printer)

Download (external):    Downloaded fonts or typefaces can be either bitmap or scalable.  Downloading can occur in a separate file prior to the printstream using the fonts or within the print file.

            Bitmap (pre-PCL5)                  Original 300 dpi only format (obsolete)

            Bitmap (DeskJet specific)       Three separate formats (DeskJet Specific)

            Bitmap (resolution specific)     Can be 300 or 600 dpi

            Intellifont Bound Scalable        .SFS bound to a standard or downloaded custom symbol set

            Intellifont Unbound Scalable    .SFS downloaded by a printer driver as temporary typefaces (rare)

            TrueType Bound Scalable        .SFT bound to a standard or downloaded custom symbol set

            TrueType Unbound Scalable    .SFT downloaded by Windows printer drivers as temporary typefaces.

Other Font Converters - Custom versions of AllType technology are also available:

• TTF2SFT.EXE / .DLL - Convert .TTF to PCLETTO (.SFT) format for downloading to HP PCL5e printers. PCL Encapsulated TrueType Outlines (PCLETTO) are generated as one complete contiguous font in UNICODE cell number order and can be marked as a permanent font for high volume applications.

• TTF2SFS.EXE / .DLL - Convert .TTF to PCLEO (.SFS) format for downloading to HP PCL5 printers. PCL Encapsulated Outlines (PCLEO) are generated as one complete contiguous font in bounded symbol set cell number order and can be marked as a permanent font for high volume applications.

• TTF2PFB.EXE / .DLL  - Convert .TTF to .PFB formats.

• CONV32  - Converts double-byte Chinese, Japanese and Korean typefaces into other formats.

• Please define all of your application requirements in your RFQ and send a sample font.
